What is a Faith Based/Faith Supported Missionary?
In financial (salary) terms, there are two basic types of missionaries, those who receive a salary directly from the organization they are serving with, and those who receive a salary through the collection of financial gifts from donors, be it individuals, churches, businesses, corporations, etc. Those who raise their own support (salary), i.e. the latter group, would be classified as Faith Based or Faith Supported Missionaries.
What this means is that the first group is provided a salary directly from the resources/funds/budget of the organization they are serving with. The second group is dependent on the gifts of others on a regular basis to generate the funds needed to allow them to serve in their chosen organization and location. In reality, most all missionaries are ultimately supported through the giving of donors; the biggest difference lies in who does the fund raising. With group 1, the mission organization does the vast majority of the work to generate the missionaries’ salaries. Often these mission organizations are associated with a particular Church denomination (e.g. Free Methodist or Baptist) but not always. In this case, each church within the denomination would give to a general mission fund and then once a missionary was selected for service, their salary would come from that general fund. With group 2, the individual does most (if not all) of the work in raising their own support. They are not getting funding from a general fund.
What does this mean for The Royce Family?
Flying Mission Zambia is a Faith Based Organization and as such, all of its members/workers are required to be Faith Based Missionaries. Therefore, one of our tasks before leaving for Zambia is to seek out those individuals, churches, etc that would be willing to partner with us by providing the financial resources needed for us to serve the Lord in Zambia with Flying Mission.
WHY SHOULD WE GIVE?
In Matthew 28:19-21 Jesus commanded believers to “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations…teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you…”. So, our greatest commission is to let every person on the planet know about Jesus and His great gift of salvation. Not everyone can or should physically go, but some of us can. Just as some need to go, some need to stay and give, pray, and encourage those who are leaving the familiar and “home” to fulfill this great commission. We believe that anyone who partners with us, (or any other evangelical missionary), is directly involved in the delivery of the gospel to the nations. There is great blessing in obeying the Lord in this task, and we believe that blessing is not only for those who travel to remote parts of the earth, but it is also for those who make that activity possible. In other words, it is a team effort and the whole team is rewarded for obediently doing their part. Just as individual parts of the body work together to make the body function, so too the individual members of Christ’s family must work together to reach a lost world for Christ. So it is with missions. We all can, and need to be involved in some way, for the task to be accomplished.
Why do we want you to give?
First and foremost, we do not want you to give out of guilt! We want people to give because they believe in the necessity of people going to other nations to spread the good news of the gospel, and they want to be a part of that process. We want people to give because they have caught the vision of what Flying Mission Zambia is doing and are excited about it. We want people to give so that their faith can be stretched and strengthened. We want people to give so that they might be blessed in return. We need people to give because we cannot do this on our own. Would you like to become a team member with us? If so, please click on the link below for more information on how to do that.
